Ricoh backs girl’s rugby in Otago

On Friday the 7th of September, Queens High School girls rugby team played in The Highlanders 10’s Tournament at St Peters College in Gore proudly sporting the Ricoh logo.

12 teams from North Otago, Dunedin, South Otago , Central Otago and Southland played a round robin with knock out quarter, semi and finals. It was a well organised event on a beautiful sunny day, with attendance from several of the World Cup winning Black Ferns and the World Cup trophy.

The Dunedin Queens Team opened with a stunning 29-0 win over the host team, then remained competitive through the round robin but fell just short of making the play-offs.

The two other Dunedin sides of Otago Girls High School and St Hilda’s High School were dominant – both well drilled sides and an organised attack and defence and it was St Hilda’s winning out in the end.

Girls rugby is certainly alive and well in the South, in no small part thanks to the inspirational, world-beating Black Ferns!
